LETTERS

Dear Editor, my name is Amber and I am a Lassen county resident. The SAVE act is a threat to democracy. Promoted as 'election security', it is a direct attack on our freedom to vote. It would prevent millions of citizens from voting, and participating in our democracy. We need congress to reject the SAVE act and instead pass meaningful pro-voter legislation like the Freedom to Vote Act, the John R. Lewis Act, and the Native American Voting Rights Act to protect against voter suppression and keep our country from becoming what out forebearers fought against.
Sincerely, Amber W nazgulspudnk@yahoo.com

To The Editor:
The USFS has just canned over 3,400 workers with more to come. Anyone who has worked for the Forest Service less than 2 years (like most of our firefighting crews) can, will or has been fired. Feel good about this?
And there is a freeze on any new hiring! 15,000 seasonal firefighters that could save our homes will not be given their jobs. And there's a "pause" in any funds for forest fire prevention. How do our Sierra Valley residents - regardless of political leaning, feel about this?
How do you feel about the new cost of home insurance? Flood -or- Fire? (My own has gone up $1,500 this year)
How do our Sierra Valley residents feel about the demise of the Department of Education, and what that means for our local school system? And for your kids and grandkids?
How do the residents of Loyalton feel about their inability to receive the water system repair grants they've been promised for such a long time? It's been just about a year, and any grants associated with the Federal Government will be denied.
How do All our residents feel about their grocery prices that were "Promised" to be lower, but have only cost more, and OMG, (unless you or your neighbor have chickens that are laying) you must Love the price of eggs!!!
And HEY, where is that $2.50 gallon of gas??? It's Over $5.00 in our neighborhood and it's going up. (I had to go to Tahoe City the other day - $6.59.9 for regular!) How do you feel about this? voted for Donald, you can kick yourself in the behind, because Nothing has been done for you!!!
Oh yeah, it's a good thing that none of us collect Social
Security or pay Federal taxes (LOL), cause Elon and his Boyz are taking all of your personal information for future use.Yeah, Tha Donald has done Nothing for you and us. He just wants to take over other countries (he's threatened to), and insanely wants to pull us out of NATO.
I wish there were room and time to point out more of trump's complete failures, but The Booster has only so many pages.....

Dear Sierra County Parents, Guardians and Community Members:

Your school board does not respect its teachers or support staff!

Our schools should be a place where students receive the highest-quality education possible. However, when the district offers teachers only a 1% raise—despite rising costs and increased demands—it is clear that investing in students by prioritizing classroom spending is not happening. The district has the money but is choosing to withhold it rather than investing in the educators and staff who make our schools run.

Educators dedicate their lives to shaping the future, yet they are continuously undervalued. A mere 1% raise is not only inadequate—it is a slap in the face to the hardworking teachers who go above and beyond every day. It is demeaning and fails to reflect the respect, support, and fair compensation that teachers deserve. Furthermore, it disregards the direct impact that fair wages have on retaining high-quality educators for our students. When teachers struggle, classrooms and students suffer.

This blatant disregard extends beyond teachers—it also disrespects our support staff, who play a critical role in supporting students and teachers alike. These dedicated staff members provide essential services, yet they, too, are being undervalued and underpaid. Without them, our schools simply cannot function at their best.

We must all stand up and speak out—not just for ourselves, but for our students. They deserve well-supported, experienced teachers and staff who can focus on their education rather than worrying about making ends meet. The district's budget should reflect its priorities, and those priorities must start with the classroom. The school district has over 5 million dollars in their reserve and refuse to use it on their teachers, students and staff. They would rather sit on the money than put it back in to our student's education.
Respect is diminishing while responsibilities are rising.

Please join us at the next school board meeting on March 19, 2025, at 6:00 PM in Loyalton, Room 4, Loyalton District Offices. Show your support for our teachers, support staff, and students—because a strong public education system benefits everyone, and it begins with ensuring that those shaping young minds are treated with the respect they have earned.

We encourage parents, community members, and educators to attend and speak at the meeting—your voice matters, and together, we can demand better for our students and
school staff.

Editor,

I am curious about the new administration and have a question or two. So if anyone can help me out I would appreciate it. It seems that the President is eliminating or weakening many federal policing agencies. The most alarming is the firing of 17 Inspector Generals whose job is to look for waste, fraud, and abuse in the different departments. But then there is the CDC, IRS, Forest Service, EPA, USDA, CPFB and those other federal officers that look for criminality in the corporate world.

The real interesting one is the firings at the IRS, you know, the guys that collect taxes that pay for schools, hospitals, bridges, police, subsidies for corporations like Tesla. I know you gotta pay IRS workers but their work brings in hundreds more than they cost. It just doesn't make sense. Please help me out.

One other thing, I do not recall seeing Elon Musk's name on the ballot. He is an Immigrant, how did an immigrant become President?
